What’s the first thing you grab when updating a home, room, or even a piece of furniture?

You guessed it……….PAINT!
It’s a fairly affordable change so we tend to do it quite often especially if you pick the wrong color….not that I have ever done that mind you!
So…..what do you do with all that paint after you are done?
PAINT RECYCLING OREGON
- Save some for your own projects. We keep a good supply of paint that we can use for small projects.
See one of our chair makeovers HERE.
- Check with your local disposal or recycling center to see when they take hazardous materials.
- Drop it off at your local Habitat for Humanity Restore for recycling or so it can be reused.
- Recycle it through the PaintCare Program, a non-profit organization that sorts and manages paint for reuse, recycling, energy recovery, or safe disposal.
PaintCare has set up 170 drop-off sites in Oregon where the public can take unwanted, leftover paint for recycling year round. Most of these sites are at paint retailers (paint, hardware, and home improvement stores) that have volunteered to take back paint, and they are available to any household and business in Oregon.
Don’t live in Oregon?
Check here to see if your state participates.
PaintCare sites accept house paint and primers, stains, sealers, and clear coatings. You can get more information here regarding events, drop off sites, the various products accepted, and more.
Now that you have put down your paint brush, be sure to check out a PaintCare facility near you to donate that paint safely and have more room in your garage.
Oh how I wish we had something like this here in South Africa. I can’t tell you how many old paint tins we have lying around that just don’t have enough paint to finish something with but we don’t have any idea how to get rid of them safely. And in today’s wasteful society it’s becoming so important that we each try and do our bit to save the planet.
This is such a great idea!
Thanks Sam 🙂
Painting is one of the easiest ways to transform ones home. Nice post!
