“There’s no school like the old school.”
Not only is decorating with older items more economical, most times, but it just brings back so much nostalgia.
Today, we welcome back Regina-Derek Stracener for a Salvage Sister & Mister Feature. If you didn’t catch Regina’s Backyard Barn Wedding, you really need to!
This week, she is sharing her wonderful:
Vintage Christmas Toy Mantel
How sweet is this?
Regina said, “I used a few of the old toys that my husband and I had as children. I searched antique stores and found toys there like the ones that we used to own/played with and purchased them. It was really inexpensive and so much fun looking for things from the past.”
Do you remember any of these toys?
She also saw stockings similar to these online but searched and couldn’t find any! So she recruited her mom into helping make these! Now that is a sweet momma!
Here’s what we love….you could easily do this with items that you have around the house. You don’t need to have vintage ones.
Now, if you like using what you got for your holiday decor, here are some more ideas…
- Glass Globe Christmas Tree
- Upcycled Hot Cocoa Bar (using a tool chest)
- Unstoppable Bottle Snowman
- Wine Cork Pine Cone Ornament
And don’t forget, we have a free SIMPLE JOYS CHRISTMAS PRINTABLE when you sign up for our newsletter.
A BIG THANKS to Regina for sharing this super cute Vintage Christmas Toy Mantel! If you are interested in a possible feature, you can go to #ssmfeatureme for more info.
We would LOVE to know…..
If you have a mantel, how will you decorate it?
I love it! This is my kind of decorating, where the space becomes a living memory or tells a story. In this way you have created true Christmas magic!

Oh my goodness, what a fantastic idea, and it looks so festive and perfect for Christmas!!! I am also searching for some of my favorite childhood toys that have gone missing over the years!
Kaycee, Isn’t it so fun? And such a great way to use items already on hand.
