THE EASIEST DIY PALLET SIGN, I’VE EVER DONE
When you write a post title that says the easiest, you better deliver.
I haven’t tried every method for pallet signs, but this is the easiest one and I like easy. This momma ain’t got no time for complicated.
Here’s what The Mister brought home for me for Valentine’s Day…
What says love more than a free pallet?

But back to the easiest DIY pallet sign…

I wanted a large piece of wall art for our family room…reading room or whatever you want to call this room.
Now most pallet signs, you tear it all apart. For this project, I wanted to keep it mostly together…aka lazy DIY’er. Only the back blocks were removed (see image) with a CLUB HAMMER or mallet.
Taking the black blocks off will leave long nails exposed. The nails were cut off with CUTTING PLIERS.
|DID YOU SEE THE FAUX PALLET SIGN WE MADE FROM CARDBOARD?|
The pallet sign was going to be hung straight on the wall. Any remaining nail, that was not flush with the pallet, was covered up with tape (masking, electrical, painters, whatever you have on hand) so it wouldn’t damage or scratch the wall.
The front had gaps that needed to be filled in to have a full surface area. Thankfully we keep leftover lumber on the side of the house for just these occasions.
I looked out in the pile and found some leftovers from this bathroom project that we didn’t end up using.
With a chop saw, the pieces were cut and nailed into place within a few minutes.
HOW WE SALVAGE
Funny story on the nails – I went to a yard sale where they had a vintage picnic tin, and I ADORE VINTAGE PICNIC TINS. When I went to pick it up it weighed a ton. The tin was completely full of nails. There was no way I was passing up this bargain so heave-ho into the car it went. Most of the nails were donated, but we kept a pile on the side of the house which now has a plant growing through it.
PAINTING PALLET SIGN
Placing a large piece of cardboard down, also from the side of the house, the pallet was painted with spray chalk paint in white.
HERE IS ANOTHER PROJECT WE USED THE CHALK SPRAY PAINT ON – FARMHOUSE TABLE
Since the additional wood pieces were not as “beat up” as the rest of the pallet, you may want to rough it up prior to painting. I didn’t, hence the lazy DIY’er reference and the easiest pallet sign project.
DECORATING SIGN
Due to the fact that this project was going to be easy, I winged the lettering.
After choosing what saying I wanted, I wrote it down on a piece of paper to see the form. From there, I used the wood slats as a guide for rows and how big the letters would be. You can use a ruler if you like.
With a pencil, I drew out the letters making any changes as I went.
Using a cheap ANGLED PAINT BRUSH and some sample paint (or CRAFT PAINT would work as well), I went to work on the letters. This part was the most time consuming.
All pencil marks, that were not covered by the paint lettering, were erased. Also, any errors were fixed with a little more spray paint to cover up a couple of issues.
From a flower stash, not from the side of the house this time, ARTIFICAL FLOWERS (think dollar store) were added to the pallet. Some flowers were added with hot glue where there were no slats, however, most of the stems were just stuck through the slats.
{This will make it easier to change and required less work……going for easiest right?}
Note – Most stems from artificial flowers were just pulled off from the top. You can save the wire for another project if you desire.
Finally, to hang it on the wall a hole was drilled on the back of the pallet, and it was mounted with a screw into a stud.
Not one dime was spent to create the easiest DIY pallet sign!!!
I was tempted, many times, to go to the craft store to buy something for it. Each time, I pressed on and used what I had.

I love this, how cute. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much Laurie for stopping by!
Love it! I really like the addition of the flowers. I need something large to go over my sofa and I will be keeping this in mind!
