A great way to upcycle an old sweater – sweater wreath with deer craft
Sweater weather
I love sweater weather, but sometimes they get stretched out or threads get pulled out. When you have a sweater in bad shape, this is a great repurposed craft. Or if you don’t have one, check a yard sale. You can usually pick up clothes for 50 cents. If those don’t work, phone a friend. Often people love to give you items to reuse.
Let’s get upcycling…
SUPPLIES
*We are Amazon Associates and can earn from qualifying purchases. Please see our disclosure policy for any additional information.
- Foam wreath form, I often find these at the thrift store, use your craft store coupon, or dollar store near you
- Deer ornament, also try your local dollar store
- Candle ring florals or other festive florals
- Pinecone floral picks
- Sweater: Thrift store, friend, yard sale
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun/glue sticks
- Floral wire
- Wire cutters
INSTRUCTIONS
- First, cut the sweater to fit around the wreath. *Cutting horizontally along the bottom of the sweater is a great place to start.
- Next, wrap the sweater and hot glue into place, keeping seem at the back of the wreath and not visible from the front.
- Cut candle ring florals in half, removing any extra unnecessary plastic. Tie to the wreath with floral wire. This can also be glued instead. *This looks really nice when it’s on one side of the wreath, allowing the pretty sweater to show.
- Glue in deer, pinecones, and additional floral sprigs.
- To create a hanger, wrap floral wire around sweater and try to get it in between any ribbing to hide it. *For hanging a wreath that has decorations on one side, hold the wreath on an extended finger and see where it balances so decorations are centered. Tie on hanger at this point.
- Finally, set out for display or give as a gift.

Notes
Most of these items you either have on hand or could easily find at a thrift store or dollar store.
Oh this is a great idea to reuse old clothes! I’ve been putting aside shirts and pants that my kids can’t wear anymore, these can’t be given away either because of holes or stains – just don’t feel right trying to donate clothes like that to someone else so I’ve been stacking them away for project ideas like this one. Thank you for sharing, pinning it because I do have foam wreathes at home from the dollar tree.
