Building a rustic DIY soap bathroom sign to help everyone remember to wash up.
My kids use to be addicted to soap. They are clean now.
When we first moved back to Oregon, back in 2013, I attended a little craft event.
I started to paint these letters in a rusty or leathery look.
I wish I could say I had a plan, but I did not. It was just kind of an evolution process. I really didn’t know what I would do with them either.
To get the finish I used several different brown craft paints and with a base coat and used paper towels to wipe the darker colors on.

SIGN DIRECTIONS
- Paint letters as you like. Again, these were made painting with browns and then brushing on black to the edges with a paper towel.
- Cut the corrugated metal to the size you desire, using tin snips.
- Frame: With your saw, measure and cut the salvaged wood (45-degree angle) to build a frame for the metal. Attach the wood pieces, to build your frame by screwing or nailing the frame together.
- Place your sheet of corrugated metal inside the frame and alternate between front and back with small nails to hold the metal in place.
- The letters were attached using mounting tape.
Who knew that little craft day would turn into this beautiful sign! It’s just perfect.
