Welcome back, today we are serving up a sweet and salty treat for you today.
A little backstory~
- This is a bottom of the bag recipe. Basically, the crumbs at the bottom of a chip bag are hard to eat….right? This recipe is an effort to salvage those crumbs in a tasty way.
- Salvage Sister doesn’t care for chocolate but does like a traditional chocolate chip cookie…. without the chocolate chips. Huh? Isn’t that just a sugar cookie. Oh, no it is not. A regular sugar cookie doesn’t have the brown sugar in it, hence the brown sugar cookie name. [And that is why a few sticks were left with no chocolate on them.]
- Round cookies are fun but sticks you can dip are even better!
There you have it….
Sweet and Salty Brown Sugar Cookie Dippers
And if you think we have lost our minds with potato chip crumbs, it is similar to sprinkling sea salt on desserts, which is quite popular. You are tasting the salt here.
Now, if you don’t have chip crumbs, you can use nuts, crushed peppermint, or just plain chocolate if you like. Customize it to your liking as well as what you have on hand.
[ctt template=”4″ link=”CiKvI” via=”no” ]Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without.[/ctt]
- 1/2 cup White Sugar
- 1/2 cup Brown Sugar packed
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened (SAVE WRAPPER TO USE)
- 1 large egg room temp
- 2 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 1 1/2 c AP flour
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 3/4 tsp salt
- 1 c chocolate chips (more of less depending on how much you want to coat the stick in)
- 1 + c potato chip crumbs
- Preheat over to 350 degrees. Line a 9 X 13 sheet pan, with rim, using parchment paper or a silpat (see above for links). You can try using a very well greased pan as it may just release without any lining. (We used a silpat.)
- In a mixer, cream together the softened butter and sugars.
- After butter and sugar mixture is creamed, add in the egg and then the vanilla,
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and baking soda.
- Gradually, add dry ingredients to the butter/sugar mixture.
- Spay or grease pan, and sides, to ensure nothing sticks.
- With a spatula, scrap up all the dough and place it in the sheet pan. Taking the butter wrapper from the stick of butter used earlier, gently press the dough down. It should fill the pan (or pretty close to it), but if it doesn't don't worry. You just want it to be even.
- Bake for approximately 18 minutes or until evenly golden brown.
- Remove from the over and let it sit for a minute. Now invert the pan unto a cutting board OR pull up lining and transfer to a cutting board.
- With a pizza cutter, cut down the middle horizontally. Next cut strips vertically.
- In a double boiler, or in the microwave, melt chocolate. *If you are unsure how to do this there is a link below.
- You can drizzle the chocolate or spread it all over or just the top part. The choice is up to you.
- Take chip crumbs,, in a shall dish, and break into smaller crumbs if necessary. Dip chocolate covered sticks into crumbs or whatever you like.
*Here is a link on how to melt chocolate if needed.

Jenny, They are super easy that’s for sure!
These sound amazing!
These sound great. I save all my butter wrappers for later too… I put them in the freezer in a bag and the other week I went to use some and found out my husband threw them all out!
