When you buy a home, we don’t believe there is ever a time it is “finished”, is there?
Since we purchased a home in serious need of HELP, we’ve been going project by project, when time and money allows.
Our latest project? Our backyard…… Now, truth be told, this isn’t the worst project in/out of the home. We still have some H.U.G.E. projects ahead of us (house painting, master bath renovation, complete front yard landscaping, etc), but sometimes you just need a project that isn’t so daunting. We needed a project that seemed doable.
PRO DIY TIP – Between large projects, complete a smaller one, so you can have a sense of completion.
The yard has some general landscaping, but we will need to add more and pull some items out. We also have some brick scalloped edging that is not quite our style. So what do you do? We will use them still but with a little change (salvage that brick).
BUT….first up is, in this backyard update project, is a cleanup.
Weed whacking, mowing the yard, raking, shoveling, etc……..you know the drill. We had to see where we stood with this yard. The Mister and our youngest pulled out the TruFuel, mower and weed whacker and went to work.
BTW– It’s great having a teen that can mow! We highly recommend it.
PRO DIY TIP – We keep TruFuel on hand because……
- It is handy not having to make a trip to the gas station.
- It is ready to use (no mixing) and doesn’t separate.
- Gas breaks down around 30 days, but TruFuel last more than TWO YEARS.
- Items that have been in the shed/garage since last season will start right away.
- Is formulated with no harmful ethanol to keep your engine safe from the damaging effects of corrosion, deposits, and phase separation. why use Ethanol-free TRUFUEL
- Easy to use as well as easy to find at our local home improvement store when we are there (like all the time). where to Buy TRUFUEL

This is where we stand after the cleanup….. And do you want to know what we did, are doing, with that scalloped brick trim? We did the hokey pokey and we turned them around…yep that’s what it’s all about. This area was just dirt so we turned the bricks around, leveled it, and added stepping stones we already had and some gravel.
We still have more trim to turn around, but the area pictured below is completely done. Isn’t that better? You’ll have to stay tuned to see what else we have planned for this area. At least for now, we are feeling like we are getting somewhere. PRO DIY TIP – Before looking at what you need to buy……look to see what you already have. Can any items be reused for another purpose or in another way? This will save you time and money as well as eliminating waste.
And the next time you are at your home improvement store, pick up some TruFuel. You’ll be glad you won’t be making trips to the gas station AND your machines will be purring like a kitten. You can learn more here as well….
looking good. I kind of like scallop, but that’s a great way to reuse it when it’s not
kirstin troyer recently posted…UPDATED POST: I LOVE Paper!!!
Thanks girl. Yeah, the scalloped just wasn’t working for us but we will have extra you can come down and get 🙂
We have the exact same edging & I hate it! I am totally flipping them over! Thank you
