I think I took crazy pills! At least that’s what The Mister probably thinks.
Who signs on to, not only completely revamp a room in 6 weeks, but document and photograph it every week along with all your other responsibilities? If it doesn’t sound like top of the roller coaster scary, I would invite you to join this crazy train.
I, or should I say we, decided to do the One Room Challenge, from Calling it Home, last year and it was _________________ (insert your own adjectives).
{You can check out the posts and projects for last year’s One Room Challenge – Game Room HERE}
We did survive…………. but WOWZERS!
Just like childbirth, you forget (well The Mister didn’t and is reluctantly on board, like “Have Fun” on board) and think it won’t be so bad.
This year, I need an office something FIERCE! I am currently working on a laptop in a living room chair. The shredder is in another room along with office supplies. The printer is upstairs..why wouldn’t it be? My binders and paperwork is scattered here and there. This situation doesn’t make for a productive workflow.
Right now, we call this room a family room, but really it’s a little reading area. I LOVE the thrifted couch along with the amazing slipcover, but I NEED a work space.
The good thing about this year’s room makeover is …. there isn’t nearly as much to do as last years. We’ve already done work to this room.
Here is what the room looked like when we bought it a few years back:
This is what the room looks like today:
{We whitewashed the fireplace and you can read more about that here.}
And here is the inspiration board for the room. Who knows what the end product will be as we are doing this on a dime…well not literally but you know what we mean. That’s why you must come back and see if I have gone crazy see how it’s coming along each week.

Side Note and Votes Needed – We were going to try and build a desk similar to the picture. After crunching the numbers it wasn’t going to be cost effective. We haven’t found a good used desk yet BUT did receive a pretty round table for FREE. Would you ever consider using a round table for a desk?
LOL…love your sweet and quirky sense of humor. Also love the fact that you are doing this for yourself. Good girl. And yes, I’d use a round table as a desk in a heartbeat. CAn’t wait to see your progress. Susie from The Chelsea Project

Susie, Stick around…I am all sorts of quirky 🙂
Thanks for stopping by!!!! Ill be popping by to see what you are up to in just a few.
Hey hon! First off that shutter in your mood board is fantastic! I hope something like that makes it into the space! I have used a round table for an office for a while and found there were perks and also cons… perk: I loooved all the space. I could set up my computer on part and have space to spread out with my planner, crafts, latest project on the other half. Con: no drawer or storage that is typically associated with a desk. I remedied the problem with a little printer cart that I could roll up when I needed it. Good luck! I can’t wait to see how it turns out!

Betsy, Thanks for the great info on the round table. I so want the one in the picture but I may have to go with the table since it’s free. We will see. I better make up my mind in a fast hurry!!!!
The room has already come so far! Can’t wait to see how you finish it. I’m sure it will be beautiful and very budget-friendly as always!
Carrie, Thanks so much. Budget friendly it will be for sure. 🙂
I am so excited to watch this come together! So fun!!

Morgan, Thanks for stopping by. I better get moving on this 🙂
I love your design board, friend! And with a fireplace in the office? Wow… it’ll be beautiful! We are tackling our office too… it’s such a sad state and excited to do this alongside you!
Kendra, I am excited but also feeling a little petrified at the same time. I can’t wait to see what you are up to. I’ll jump over right now.
Love your style! Very similar to mine 🙂 I am looking forward to following along! As for a round table as a desk, I absolutely would embrace this idea!
Maureen, Well all the positive feedback on a round desk is helping me. I am not gonna lie, I want the one in the picture! Thanks for stopping by!
I don’t see why you could’t make a round table work! Go for it. Can’t wait to see your space come together. I’m working on an office/studio space too!
Thanks Leslie, I am so on the fence about it. I think it would be good to sprawl out but not sure it will work in the overall space. I am so torn.
I love where you are headed. Your design board is beautiful and I would absolutely consider using a round table as a desk. I frequently work at my dining room table, which has rounded ends (it’s oval) and it’s fine. I don’t even notice it’s a rounded end. I think it would be a unique and fun change from what is typically expected in an office. Looking forward to seeing it all come together.
Thanks Sue for your input. I just love the table and the price. I’ll just have to see if it will work in the space size wise. Appreciate your stopping by!
so I totally clicked over because I am doing a home office ORC too. it is my husbands office but it has been untouched for 10 years. can’ t wait to follow your progress.
Cecilia,
Oh I will have to check yours out. Thanks for stopping by! 🙂
ooh I love office makeovers! I’m not sure about a round table – they can take up so much space, but I could see it working. Did you check out the Ana white site for tutorials? She might have some more affordable DIY table plans? Whichever way you go I’m sure it will be awesome – I love the style of the space so far 🙂
Casey,
You hit it right on the head with a round table taking up too much space. The room is not huge and that’s the thing I am most concerned with. But FREE is so good.
The Mister can build without plans it’s the wood and supplies that are the issue. Thx for mentioning though.
Love that I’m not the only crazy one! Love your little couch – that looks so comfy! Good luck! I’ll be back to check your progress!
Eliesa, I will miss this couch so much. I wish I had another place for it. 🙁 (insert crying)
Thanks so much for stopping by!
So excited to see you for this round of the One Room Challenge! It’s definitely insane, but I still love both spaces that I’ve done through it. Can’t wait to see how your room turns out!
Leslie, Thankfully this time I didn’t take on as big of a project as my newbie round 🙂 #lessonlearned
Lol. Someday I’ll learn that lesson, too. Until then, My Aprils and Octobers are going to continue to be ridiculous!

I hear ya. If we had the money to do a bigger update, I would totally do it!!! We have a bath that could win an award for ugliest bath in America. I want to remodel it something fierce and would take it on for this challenge.
Free is good, but it might take up too much space. Is there any way to cut it up and use it? Can’t wait to see what you guys do!
Emy, Yeah I thought about cutting it but it hasn’t really sold me either. Hmmmmmm should prove interesting.
Call never crazy over here also! I’m knee deep in an office for the ORC. Love that you have a fireplace. That’s amazing! Good luck! It’ll be great!
Amy, I am so looking forward to all these office makeovers. Such inspiration. Thanks for stopping by!!!!!
Great room, pretty inspiration, best wishes!!
Jessica, Thanks so much!
I have almost this exact trunk in my sitting room! It’s used for the same thing!!! haha! (great minds) I can’t wait to follow this project… It’s going to be great!!
Oh I love this trunk. Now I have to find out what I am going to do with it after it gets displaced.
The work you’ve already done is incredible! Looks like we’re both looking for a little office space to work in for this challenge. Can’t wait to follow along and see what you end up doing!

Erin, Thanks so much. Yes, I need an office something terrible. Appreciate you stopping by girl!!
Your room is already so beautiful, I wonder how you’re gonna make it better! 😛
Natalie, Appreciate your sweet comment. I will miss that loveseat for sure, but am so happy to have a home office in the works!! Thanks for stopping by!
Can’t wait to see what you do. I think the round table could work….def the con is drawers, but you could at some point find some old filing drawers and paint that would fit underneath maybe. I wonder if you could cut a portion of the table to butt up against the wall or into a corner (corner limits what can be done with it, but could be an option). I think it’s totally doable.
