These no-sew repurposed Halloween costume pumpkins are a perfect way to preserve holiday memories.
Welcome back to another Salvage Sister & Mister feature day!
We are super excited to share this no-sew pumpkin tutorial because sewing skills around Camp Salvage are fairly basic, at best! #goal
Our guest today is Shannon from Inspiredby2 on Instagram.
She is a wife, mama to twins, desert dweller, creator, and DIY’er. She’s inspired by rustic, vintage, and farmhouse decor and even better if it’s decor on a budget.
Recently she shared how she had a hard time parting with her kids Halloween costumes from a couple of years ago. Since they no longer fit into these cute burglar shirts, what could you do?
Give them away? Store them?
She decided to create these fall pumpkins to preserve the memories with them!!!!!!

REPURPOSED HALLOWEEN COSTUME PUMPKINS
PRESERVING MEMORIES
Who doesn’t love fall?! It’s my most favorite season with leaves turning, cooler weather, warm apple cider, and everything PUMPKIN! As a desert resident, we only get a short version of this fabulous season so it has become my mission to create an early fall in my home by filling it with all of these wonderful elements that make this time of year special!
As much I love to embrace the different seasons and dress my home for the holidays, I don’t have a big budget to constantly change my décor so I rely on easy DIY projects!
One of my favorite DIY is this easy no-sew “memory” pumpkin I created out of my twins’ burglar costumes a few years back. It was my most favorite Halloween because I dressed my whole family as cute burglars and we were so cozy too! Just look at us ready to steal the night away with some trick or treating. Anyways, I really had a hard time letting go of my kid’s outgrown striped shirts so I decided to turn them into “memory” pumpkins, keeping the memory alive every year.
If you are like me and don’t know how to sew, you will have so much fun creating these no-sew pumpkins! They are super easy once you learn a few tricks that I’m going to share with you now.

SUPPLIES
- Long sleeve shirt or sweater
- String (5 to 6 pieces measuring 2.5” the length of sleeve)
- Poly-fil or preferred stuffing
- 3 cinnamon sticks (dollar store)
- A rubber band
- Hot glue
- BONUS: Embellishments!! (I found my rosettes in a package at Goodwill and added a few pearls to them.)
PUMPKIN DIRECTIONS
Create a pocket
Since my shirt was toddler size, I chose to use one full sleeve. I’ve made sweater pumpkins out of an adult size sweater and was able to make multiples out of one sleeve.
- Cut the long sleeve off your shirt & turn inside out.
- Now, group your strings together and tie a knot at one end.
- Pull the group of string through the sleeve with the knot poking out of the wider end of the sleeve.
- Wrap a rubber band around the end of the sleeve with the knotted end.
STUFF PUMPKIN
Turn your sleeve back right-side-out (forming a pocket) with the strings hanging out at the bottom of the “pumpkin”. Start stuffing your sleeve as desired.
ADD PUMPKIN STEM
Place the three cinnamon sticks inside the top of your stuffing leaving two-thirds of the sticks peeking out the top. Bunch the sleeve around the sticks and hold tight.
Make Grooves
Bring one of the bottom strings to the top and pull tight (be careful not to break the string), wrapping around the top of your sleeve and sticks. Seal the end with hot glue. Repeat this step with each string.
My goal was to cover the exposed end of the sleeve with the string but it still looks cute either way.
Glam your pumpkin
I used lace rosettes with pearls to give my pumpkin a shabby-chic and rustic farmhouse charm! What I love about DIY is that you can add your own touch and tweak the design to fit your style so feel free to do the same!
Have fun creating!!
