Everyone has a few gifts they remember from childhood….we hope!
Sometimes they cost a lot,
most of the time they don’t.
They are presents that just hit that “feel” spot!
FAVORITE GIFTS WHEN WE WERE KIDS:
The Mister
- Styrofoam Glider
- Sailboat Kit
- Remote Control Jeep
The Future Engineer
- For Christmas, a 1967 Ford Fairlane 500 to fix up and possibly drive. But first my Uncle wrapped up a hot wheel and a letter while my brother was unwrapping a HUGE gift. Uncle has a sense of humor.
- Bike
- I-Pod
The Helper
- Electric Guitar
- Tek Deck
- Basketball hoop
Salvage Sister
- My brother, a machinist at the time, made me a brass canopy bed for my Barbie’s. Still have it.
- Same brother, gave us tickets for our family to Disneyland. Need I say more?
- And this…………
(Set Scene)
We went to visit my mom’s family in California for Christmas.
I think this was the first, non-baby, Christmas I ever spent away from Chicago. I remember feeling sad and kind of weird to be in sunny California instead of snowy Illinois.
My Aunt and Uncle had 5 children just like our family, although their kids were my brothers ages..not mine ( I was a little late to the scene).
My Grandmother, Grandpa and Step-Grandma, another Uncle, Aunt, and cousins (one my age), and probably even more people than I can remember where there.
I was around 11 years old.
Christmas is a BIG DEAL at this age.
But what I can remember wondering is….
Would we be sitting around watching the host family open up gifts?
Just being honest!
I was a kid.
We couldn’t bring much cause we were traveling. I think we had our Christmas beforehand???
Not to fear…………………………………..
My Aunt Janet was on it, REALLY ON IT!
She gave these cigar or shoe boxes,(REUSE) which I am doing a replica for my niece this Christmas.
*Affiliate links used. We could receive a small amount if a purchase is made. You can read our disclosure policy here.
Everything was wrapped individually and carefully (MUCH better than I)….Pencils, Erasers, Etc.
And honestly I don’t even remember all the little trinkets that were in it. It was just so wonderful to unwrap so many things. I had a lot to keep me busy. And she did such a good job wrapping that it felt like a treasure box!
GIVE A BOX
Do you have kids coming to visit?
This is great all around gift as you can customize it.
Here is just a partial list of ideas to put inside:
- Pencils/Pens
- Stickers
- Lip Balm
- Joke Book
- Hair Accessories
- Snacks
- Craft Supplies (Like these!!!)
- Tape (kids love tape!)
- Crayons
- Notepad
- Craft like THIS
- Card Game or This One
- Erasers
- One of these or this if it’s for a boy (entertainment for hours!!!!!)
- Nail Polish
- Cars
- Candy
- Money
- Socks
- Makeup
- Tools
- Gift Cards
- Marbles
- A Letter
- Earbuds
**And if you buy in a bunch (like a box of cars), you can make a lot of these things to giveaway to neighbor kids, nieces, nephews, or grand kids.
You could even do a themed one….Baking, Cars, Tools, Etc.
Spend as little or as much as you want. The main trick is making sure it all fits in there. Also, if it’s for a child, make sure it contains things they can use that day to keep them occupied (like we tried to include in our links).
This is a great way for any kid, or adult, to feel special…..I know I did!
I still remember it, ALL these many years later!
