About 14 years ago we had a Golden Retriever pup named Hailey. She was a beautiful dog that we only had for 5 years before she had cancer and had to be put down.
It was very traumatic to have The Mister drive away with her in the back of the car as the kids were crying! Needless to say it took a little bit before we wanted to get a dog again. But sooner or later we did.
Brody was a Chocolate Lab we got through an organization named Desert Lab Rescue in Arizona. He had one blind eye and was about 5 years old at the time of adoption.
The foster family, that had him until he was adopted, said that he liked other dogs but didn’t play with toys. We aren’t sure what they were talking about because he loved him some toys and HATED other dogs. That was up until we stayed at The Mister’s Mom’s house and he had to get along with another dog.
He hated the water, loved to go on walks, the car was one of his favorite places to be, and recently discovered that he enjoyed dog biscuits after all (another dog is eating them so they can’t be that bad).
One of our favorite memories will always be the time we took him camping and forgot his dog food. We have never been people that feed dogs table food. In this case, what are you going to do? He had bacon, eggs, and hot dogs (is that cannibalism?).
When we got back home it was back to the dog food. HOWEVER the next time we took him camping he refused to eat his dog food. We started to worry he wasn’t eating so we would put a little treat under his food. He ate around it, over it, but not through it! After awhile, we gave in and each time he went camping he got his treats.
Brody had a tumor, lost his hearing, and bad arthritis. We have now had to make yet another trip in the car to say goodbye to a family friend. This is the part we hate!
Brody has been a good pup to our family and we will truly miss him.
Goodbye good buddy!
