Salvage Sister and Mister

The Glass is Half Full…of PEPPERS

05/06/15 | Home, Upcycle/Reuse

Way back when…about two years ago….I had a job as a Food Manager for a meal assembly business.

In that job, we had commercial size food items…go figure.

But some of those items were packaged in GOLD!

Well to another worker and myself.

HUGE GLASS JARS!

(Thank you Spanish Olives.)

When we would get one in, we would wash it up and bring it to it’s new home.

They make AMAZING canisters.

You don’t work at a meal assembly business or restaurant, no problem.

Do you have a restaurant you frequent?

Get to know the manager and ask if they ever have some.

MOST BUSINESSES THROW THESE AWAY!!  (Sorry for the ugly truth!)

No one will give you one, don’t give up.

If you have are going to have a party, go to the restaurant supply place and look for products in jars that you can reuse.

I went to test out this theory just to be sure.

I go this jar of peppers, yes we will eat them, for $9.50.

Jars of this size usually cost around, prices may vary, $20 so we were already in good standing.

**But if you can get them for free, try that first!***

The ones with the white lid, that matched the ones I already had, cost more so green it was.  We have white spray paint ALWAYS!

I took the peppers out (anyone want some?) and put it through the dishwasher.

No yucky or funny smells afterwards…..I PROMISE!

I spray painted the top and now it matches the others.

EASY PEASY!

FREE GLASS JAR CANISTERS!

Like I said, the FREE way is the way to go if you can.  But if you are having a party, or someone you love is, try and grab up those glass jars when you can.

Anyone want any peppers?

Great idea! I’m all about reusing glass jars and bottles, but I don’t use any that big. I’ll have to see if I can take some off the hands of my favorite local restaurants. Thanks sharing this trick!

Jen, they are amazing if you can find some. Usually places that have olives. 🙂

My daughter says the only reason I feed her pickle addiction is so I can have the glass jars
Gosh she found out my secret…. and I have painted all my lids also… They look better and work out better than some I have actually bought at the store….. and we get the bonus of pickles to eat… Sorry I’m not a pepper gal. <3

Mildred, PERFECT. Pickles are a great way to go! (Just got the peppers cause that was the most reasonably priced and something we would eat)

Great idea! I love how you painted the lids to match, but the glass is different. Thanks for sharing at Talented Tuesday!

I’ll never look at a jar of food the same way again. What a creative idea and I LOVE your labels. Thanks so much for inspiring us at Vintage Inspiration Party.

Oh how I LOVE those jars that the Spanish olives come in! I still use mine except mine don’t look as pretty as yours. I just threw on labels from the Dymo. Some day I will get around to adding pretty labels and repaint the lids.

They are just chalk labels from Michaels. Easy peasy 🙂
