DIY Christmas Cabinet Door Sign
When it comes to the holidays, most people love it, but many are also very overwhelmed with it. So much spending, cooking, cleaning, and magazine worthy homes…. that the meaning can get lost.
We are big advocates for doing what works for you and keeping the focus on the big things – faith, hope, and love. Things that will bring true happiness.
This is why we try to keep our projects on the simple side. Using items you have on hand not only helps the pocketbook, but it also can be a time of creativity and time spend with others.
For today’s DIY Christmas Cabinet Door Sign project, here’s what you will need:
SUPPLIES
*Affiliate links are used. It will show the same or similar items used. You can read our full disclosure policy here.
- Cabinet Front Panel – Drawer Blank (This one was from Habitat for Humanity ReStore)
- Antique Glaze
- Old Cloth or Paper Towel
- Glue
- Foam Brush
- Scissors
- Burlap
- Holiday Letters Cutouts, mine was already this buffalo check, but you could do plain and decorate as you like.
- Picture Hanger Hook(s)
- Hammer
- Brass Tacks
INSTRUCTIONS
- Clean off the cabinet drawer blank and sand if desired.
- On the back, attach the picture hanger hooks. For a long piece like this, you could have one on each side. Be careful to measure properly so it will hang correctly. Depending on the weight of the piece, you might be able to use these instead of picture hooks, for temporary holiday decor hanging.
- Apply antique glaze to the board and gently wipe off excess. You can take off, or leave on, as much as you like. Pay attention to the edges and corners as those are generally where most antiquing shows. Let it dry.
- Cut a piece of burlap to attach to the front of the sign. I only wanted it to cover the inside section.
- Apply a layer of glue, attach the burlap, and let it dry. Note – If some of the strings of burlap come off, it doesn’t matter as it’s a rustic type piece. In fact, I pulled some off to fray mine a bit.
- Attach whatever lettering/decals you like.
- In the corners, on the burlap, I glued on four brass tacks. You can either remove the point, if it won’t go through the door, or you can bend it back.

So I clicked the affiliate to check out those words, because they are so cute. I didn’t realize they were wood cutouts! I guess when I see plaid I think fabric from the dresses my mom used to make for me. Either way, pre-cut makes it easy.

Bliss, Yeah,I got this one at Michaels awhile back.
I love this beautiful sign Deborah! It’s such a great way to reuse an old cabinet front! And I agree with you on keeping things simple…I have a tendency to overdo, and then I’m burnt out. Trying to learn this lesson!

Debra, You are so sweet. Thank you!
LOVE your sign! I love signs with raised letters, and putting the burlap between the painted wood and raised letters is genius. You might have started a new trend there!
