Hello Salvage Sister and Mister Fans! Are you ready for the holidays? Today I am sharing one of my first Christmas DIY crafts. I found these charger plates at my local Goodwill. There were three of them at only $1.00 each. What caught my eye was their beautiful shape. If you can’t find plate chargers at your local thrift store, the Dollar Tree sells them.

DIY Thrift Store Cricut Charger Plate Christmas Craft
The Hubs and I just recently retrieved our Christmas décor bins from the attic. After rummaging through them, I decided we needed an entirely different theme this year. Our décor was over ten years old! This year will be a farmhouse theme. Lots of black and white checked mixed with rustic, wood décor.
Before I started the makeover, I asked the Hubs to create the word “Joy” using our Cricut Vinyl Machine. This would be placed in the center of the plate.
“Joy” was created using the Dearly Loved One font. He measured the center of the plate to determine what size the vinyl needed to be, from top to bottom. Of course, if you do not have a vinyl machine, a stencil will work as well.
To get started:
I cleaned the charger plate with Windex just to remove any dust or fingerprints.
My color choice for the plate was Waverly Inspiration’s White Chalk Acrylic Paint. I had this on hand. I previously used it for my tray makeover you can see HERE. Yes, I know I use a lot of white. But we rent our home, and the living room colors give off a southwestern theme (burgundies and yellowish browns). White brightens it up a bit!
When painting, apply a thin coat to the front of the plate and the edges. Give it about 20 minutes to dry, and then apply the finished and final coat. This is after the first coat:
Once the paint was completely dry, I used my 220-git sandpaper and lightly distressed around the edges and the curves.
Daniel (a.k.a. The Hubs), was kind enough to apply the vinyl to the plate for me. He is so awesome!
To seal the plate, I sprayed one light coat of Polycrylic. This also seals and protects the vinyl.
I found this adorable black and white checked bow at Hobby Lobby in the same section as the stockings I mentioned earlier. It was only $2.00 because Christmas décor was on sale for 50% off.
Before attaching it to the charger plate, I made sure the wire on the back was tight around the center of the bow. Then, I cut any access off so the bow would lay flat. I used hot glue to adhere the bow to the charger plate.
In keeping with the farmhouse theme, I added a cotton boll to the center of the bow using my hot glue gun.
This was a simple project, but it will definitely make a statement on my fireplace mantel!
