“We no longer build fireplaces for physical warmth. We build them for the warmth of the soul; we build them to dream by, to hope by, to home by.”
– Edna Ferber
Is there anything better than a cozy fireplace in the winter?
However, not everyone has one. So, when making ornaments this year, this BUFFALO CHECK LOG CARRIER ORNAMENT had all the cozy feels I was wanting to capture; like when I made this farmhouse log fireplace ornament.
BONUS, It’s easy to make.

- Buffalo Check Wire Ribbon (I used this width)
- Scissors
- Small Wood Dowel
- Hot Glue/Glue Gun, have you tried a cordless one yet?
- THESE!!!!!!!!!!! (not mandatory, but a godsend when using a hot glue gun)
- String/Ribbon
- Cinnamon Sticks
- Clear Glue
INSTRUCTIONS
- Lay out ribbon, measure out to desired length, and cut. I did mine about 6″.
- On either end, notch out the “handles”.
- Take clear glue, and dab some on the cut ribbon “handles” to prevent fraying. You can use a q-tip or just your fingers and rub a little on. Not very much is needed, just on the ends where you cut it.
- Cut small dowel to desired length, twice. I use this. Mine are approximately 3 1/2″ long.
- Wrap the “handle” over the dowel and glue, repeat on each end.
- Bring the two pieces together and hold with one hand. With your other hand, add cinnamon sticks, by gluing them to the middle – like logs. My sticks are 3 1’2 – 4 ” in length.
- Finally, add ribbon to the middle of the two dowels – tying them together and making your loop for you to hang on the tree.
That was pretty simple, right?
You can make one for your tree, for the top of a gift, and/or for an ornament exchange.
