We get it …….FAST FOOD is not the best idea.
Often it’s not healthy and it actually can be costly…BUT!!!!!!
The reality is –
LIFE GETS BUSY!
YOU DON’T WANT TO HEAT UP THE KITCHEN
Can we get an AMEN?
If you are having one of those nights, we have alternatives:
Your Supermarket Deli
Yes, you will have to get out of the car, but you can grab it and be on your way to soccer practice in no time.
Now, on the health meter, this may not be 100% granola worthy, but it sure beats fried food and IS WAY CHEAPER THAN FAST FOOD!
Back to the deli/supermarket-
Grab a loaf of French bread (wheat if you like) for aprox. $1.50
Generally deli meat/cheese is cheaper than pre-packaged so get what’s on sale. If you really want to stretch a buck, ask them to slice it thin!
- Some deli’s have mustard and mayo packets on hand
- Grab some grapes (or whatever fruit is on sale)
- Pick up a bag of chips
- Load up a few water bottles
…….and away you go!!!!!
The deli often has premade sandwiches which is still cheaper than fast food.
This is a great option if you don’t want to tear off bread and try to get different meats to suit everyone’s needs.
Again, grab your food accessories according to your families wants/needs.
The Rotisserie Chicken.
Yes, we know, many are aware of this wonderful option.
The beauty of a deli chicken in the summer, is you aren’t heating up your home.
You can make sandwiches, eat it on it’s own, or anything you would do with a roasted chicken.
AND DON’T THROW AWAY THE BONES.
- In Crockpot, add carcass (no skin)
- Fill with water
- Add onion, celery tops, carrots, and herbs.
- Simmer on low (all day if possible)
- Strain and store in large LABELED freezer bags
